The non-living object i choose is the rock. The living thing i choose is the dog. These things have large scale differences that make one living while the other is non-living. The Dog is living because, it is made up of cells, its body must maintain homeostasis, it carries out many chemical reations in order to obtain energy known as metabolism, its body also responds to its external environment, the dog reproduces offspring, it passes traits to its offspring known as heredity, also it grows in size, and change all together. Now, the rock is non-living for a main reason because it is not made up of cells. Also, it doesn't have to maintain homeostasis, has no metabolism, it does not respond to its environment, doesn't reproduce, has no use for heredity, and doesn't grow.
ReplyDeleteproperties of life...You can tell that the dog is living because it is able to reproduce and grow. The rock is not living because it doesn't have any of the properties of something that is living. The rock isn't responsive, it can't reproduce or grow either.the rock isn't living also because the cell theory that all living things are made of cells. Also the rock wouldnt resoned to there environment.

The rock is a non-living object. The rock is non-living because it cant grow or reproduce. It cant grow or reproduce beccause it doesnt have cells. The flower on the other hand is a living orgasm. the flower has the ability to reproduce and grow. Also a flower, unlike a rock, can respond to its environemt. A flower can turn toward the sun to get more light, a rock cant. Therefore a flower is living and a rock is not.
ReplyDeleteThe rock is a nonliving organism because it cannot respond to its environment to maintain homeostasis. It does not have chemical reactions within it, therefore does not have metabolism. It cannot reproduce and are not previously reproduced and cannot recieve or pass down genes. The rock cannot grow. It cannot perform any of these tasks due to the fact that it does not consist of cells. The dog, on the other hand, is a living organism and is made up of cells. It responds to its environment to maintain homeostasis and it carries out chemical reactoins within its body to obtain energy(metabolism). It can reproduce and therefore can pass its own traits down to its offspring. The dog itself, was produced as a puppy and has grown over time. These opposing characteristics define these two organisms as living and nonliving.
ReplyDeleteThe rock is nonliving because it doesn't grow nor reproduce. It doesn't have cells. It can not respond. It doesn't change through homeostasis and don't maintain a stable internal environment to function properly. It don't have heredity because it was not produced by any living organism. On the otherhand, a dog is living because it reproduces with other of the same species. They also have cells, which helps it live. Dogs also maintain homeostasis because when it is cold outside, the dogs body keeps warmer so it won't die. They also have matabolism. Also every day, a dog's body grows in some way. They also have heredity because if a dog reproduces, it will have characteristics from its parents.

ReplyDeleteThe living organisms above are the soil, the dog, and the flower. They are living because they follow the characteristics of beings a living organism. Which are Homeostasis, hetabolism, responsiveness, reproduction, heredity, and growth. The rock on the other hand follows some of those but not all which would make it not living.

ReplyDeletehmmmmmm......well to start it all out my name is tommy...hello fellow students around the world......i am blogging from my biology 1 room which is a class that i love dearly and sincerely...that comes from the bottom of my heart =) now about science.....Well....the the organisms above are a dog, a flower, soil, and a rock. All of these organisms have the characteristics of being a living organism except for the rock. The rock is not in the living category because it does not grow or reproduce......well goodbye students around the world.....peace g =)
The images above contain a rock and a dog. One is living and one is nonliving. A dog is a living organism because it maintains homeostasis. When it gets hot it will pant, lowering its body temperature. A dog grows from a small puppy to a full grown dog. A dog reproduces with others of its kind. The smallest basic unit of a dog is the cell, which all living thins have.

The rock is nonliving because it does not have any of the seven properties of life. It does not reproduce, adapt to its surroundigs through homeostasis, and doesn't have cells. The rock does not have a metabolism, because rocks do not eat, you don't see a rock taking a bite out of your ankle when your walking. The dog has all seven of the properties of life. The dog has cells, reproduces, adapts to its surroundings through homeostasis, has a metabolism to break down its food for energy, has features of its parents, and grows. :):):):):):):):) Have a nice day and I hope you enjoyed our comment on this important issue. properties of life... The plant is living because it can reprlduce or make more of its self. It is also living because it needs water and energy to grow. On the other hand, the rock is not living because it can not reproduce or grow, and it can not respond to the environment and it has no cells.

ReplyDeleteHello:) Our choices for this blog are the flower (living), and the rock(nonliving). The flower is living because they have all seven properties of life!!! They have cells, maintain homeostasis, grow, reproduce, responds to the sun, and contains heredity from the seeds in reproduction, and use chemical reactions to get energy (metabolism)!! The rock on the other hand, is not a living thing. The rock does not grow, have cells, respond, reproduce, use metabolism, use homeostasis or contain heredity!!:) In spongebob world, a rock does move in the snail race and is victorious and is used to drive home when stranded in the middle of nowhere, never to be found. However in real life, this isn't true. SORRY! (You'll lose if you put a rock in a snail race, FYI) Well that's it. Until next time, this is:

In the pictures above, there are two living and two nonliving items. The dog and the flower are the living items while the soil and the rock are not living. The dog and flower are living organisms because they reproduce, grow, give traits to their offspring, respond to weather conditions, and have chemical reactions to uptain food. The rock and soil are nonliving items because they do not grow, do not reproduce, do not produce any chemical reactions.

The nonliving thing that we picked was the rock, and the living organism that we picked was the dog. They are different because the dog is able to reproduce, move, eat, and has five senses. The rock is not able to do anything besides sits there. They have different descriptions, obviously. The rock is not able to grow, but the dog is.
